Descrição: An 18-pounder field gun battery emerges head-on out of a farm courtyard onto a very wet and muddy road. RFA gunners pack 18-pounder shells into wooden boxes for transportation. A 4.5-inch field howitzer fires from brushwood cover. At an observation post a Forward Observation Officer (FOO) with his team, one with a trench periscope, relays firing orders with a notepad and field telephone. Men of an 18-pounder battery run to enter a gun pit entirely concealed in reeds. The battery fires, shown visible from the rear but almost completely hidden from the front. View from a front trench of shells bursting over the German lines 200 metres away - the ground is flat and without cover. The FOO relays fresh orders to the battery which continues its shoot. Another view of the 4.5-inch howitzer firing.
